Accompaniment Programs
About Accompaniment Programs
Accompaniment is not just a program, but the core element of our support network. When you accompany a person through the system, you support and share your power with them, but you also receive an unmatched education in how different people experience American society. Please read more about the Way of Accompaniment.
Accompaniment is both a way of being — a commitment to being present with others — and a concrete activity coordinated by Fools Mission to provide support for our members. We accompany each other whenever support may be useful, as we interact with the bureaucracy and machinery of society. We’ve accompanied each other at:
- medical appointments
- school meetings
- Department of Motor Vehicle appointments
- trials, custody hearings, and other court dates
- appointments to secure housing
- and other meetings with power disparity
